What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 85

WOYWW - here 'tis again!!
The start of another Wednesday, and a topsy-turvy week with computer issues has not been all joy, but hey! I am here and I want to say a really big thank you to everyone who stopped by my place last week for first intro in WOYWW ... what fun it was! have made heaps more friends on blogs and seen (and learnt) so much!!

One new addition in my craft cupboard is a spice rack!

Mm! I know a spice rack, but hey! it was there, all beautifully crafted by my father (originally for his wife in their former residence) and on the scrap heap so to speak (no room in his new abode, nor in any one else's as a spice rack) and there was space in my cupboard saying: "yes, please!" and so here you see it with my embossing powders, glitters, brads and other odds and sods..joy all around! :)

Here also is my table and the fun I have had with my brayer doing some marbled paper for cards (if you want to check these out there is post below on how to do this method), and on this table are:
1. the card I was looking for when I did in my mock marble post on Monday, will show it below in close up.

2. new things for the week -the other Cuttlebug Plus folder (I showed the first one last week) and when I said had two I was asked what the other was? and this is it - the fancy labels and have stamped one of the labels so you can see how it is cut embossed and then I also coloured through the back section. I stamped one of my new Our Daily Bread Stamps on the fancy label -ah!

3. The Brocade Window is also at the back (next to my bug) and it has a small roll of ribbon under the clear acetate film that is on the back of the folder and you lift this film and then use chalk or ink to colour the raised embossed portion. (hope I made this clear? see last weeks post if not sure)

This card is done with the green colours in my post for the marbled background and then stamped with my Lizard stamp (from MY Stamps in Oz in late 1990's) and the Pocket Silhouettes from Stamping up and then mounted rather simply, on a mock lizard paper, black and green card and ribbon.

Oh, and to find out what WOYWW is and to join in the fun, drop by Julia's Stamping Ground!   Happy WOYWW, everyone!

  1. What a great way to recycle the spice rack! Very innovative. And nice to see you having fun with some new items. I'm looking forward to doing the same once all my purchases from this week start arriving.

I'll post up my own work space when I get home from work this afternoon. But be warned... my workspace is once again my floor! I am so messy! :-)

  39. Awesome repurposing of the spice rack. I love to do that. I think we get so overcharged for craft related items and if I can use something that is intended for something else and get it for less money and I get so happy!

  40. Hi Shaz, love the idea of the spice rack - bet there is one at the local second-hand shop just waiting for me!! LOVE the card - it's really amazing - love the background!

Thanks for stopping by my Blog and for your lovely comments on my balloon card :-) You asked about how I add the writing to my photos. I use my photographic program Google Picasa (which is a free download) which is where I edit my photos. I just select "add text" and type out what I want - have the option of choosing whatever font I want - resize it - move it around - it's really easy. Before I had Picasa, I used my Canon Scanner program but it's much easier in Picasa (for me it is!). I also have Gimp (another free download), but I am still "learning" that one - is bit more technical and haven't really had the time to sit and play without being interrupted. You can add watermarks in Gimp but not in Picasa. I bought a couple of watermarks which is what is on my flower photos from a week or so ago (that was my little "play" around without Gimp). Drop me an email if you need any more help - happy to oblige!

  41. Hello again Shaz. I think the glue gun can be ordered in Australia, but I have no idea of cost. Look at Susan Moloney on WOYWW, she's in Aus, and got one for Christmas. I've got tiny hands too (about 3" wide and 5" high, no bigger than a teenagers!), and I was concerned about the size and potential weight of the gun, but it's really light and very easy to use too.

    Hugs

  44. Hi Shaz,
Love your spice rack (great idea) and your card! In regards to your question about my ATG gun, I bought mine from Custom Crops in the US for $25 plus $15.92 shipping (all in US Dollars). I also got extra tape plus a few other things! This was the cheapest option for me. I know Scrapbook Boutique (Aus) is selling them for around $60. It is really easy to use but is very sticky so once you stick something down it will NEVER come apart without ripping. Believe me I have tried!
    Hope this helps.

  46. Hi Shaz, the watermark on my flower photos was a watermark that I purchased from Karen Giron in the USA: Karen Giron's blogspot Scroll down and on the RHS is a little box about Watermarks and click on it. It will bring up a page where you can see the sample Watermarks and you can choose what you would like - keep scrolling down - there are LOTS to choose from. Karen has a tutorial at the end of the watermarks about how to add them to your photos. Once I had ordered and paid, Karen emailed them to me within a few days. I ended up downloading the FREE Gimp program so I could add them to my photos as you can't do it in my Google Picasa program and I don't have Photoshop. Took a while for me to figure out Gimp - is a bit more technical than Picasa!! I keep thinking I should try and make my own watermarks, but I seem to run out of time to play around with how to do it - and then I usually just type in the info in Picasa as I know how to do it & it's quick and easy!! I figure for $2 for someone else to make a watermark for me is quicker too!
    Hope this helps :-)
{{hugs}} and blessings to you Shaz!

  49. Hi Shaz ... I fell in love with the Cuttlebug embossing folder plus card you did ....elegant and lovely colours ....so I toddled off to buy one (as I did with the stampscape stamps!) The folders are so expensive in the UK for what they are .... I have loads of folders already some 5x7 so I am going to use one of those and cut an aperture with a nestie shape to see if I can mimic your card ....£25 per folder over here!! Can't justify that price but I adore what you did with it ! xx
