Here is the finished work from my desk for this week and ... finally finished. Hurrah!! Took an awful lot of gold leaf - 3 sheets in all! I use 23 carat gold leaf on tissue back, with glue size for build up. This is not the frame it will be in, as my customer is taking it to her framer, but did it up in one so you can see it properly finished!
The verse is from Psalm 62 vs 8 "Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah." ("Meditate" in Hebrew). Praise God for His unfailing love and place of refuge in this troubled world.
I have finished Morti’s mother’s piece, and it is safely in England, so here it is. Her mother’s birthday was about now (a big HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY, MUM!).After the interest last week on the birds in my yard I thought I would show you the photo of the “clowns “of my yard. They love the grevilleas and the bird bath is another play area for them. They are really amusing and at times quite raucous in their disputes among their flocks.
These rainbow lorikeets love the grevilleas. These are some photos of feed-time on the Honeybird Yellow Grevillia, which is most definitely their favourite of the grevilleas in my garden. along with Birdsong which is the gorgeous Orange one on my Verse of the week - see sidebar.
Truly God's creation is very, very beautiful!
Rainbow Lorikeet “Lorikeets are considered a small to medium parrot and range in size from 150mm (6") to 400mm (16"). The colour of the bird depends upon the species and the variation with in that species, however bright colours are common and popular. Lorikeets are one of the few parrots that eat mainly nectar and pollen. In Australia, it is common along the eastern seaboard, from Queensland to South Australia and northwest Tasmania.”

Your stamping is nearly finished ... you'll be happy to hear. With not having to do an HOH page this month, I have a "window of opportunity" for some other stuff.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can finally leave comments again! And I want to know if those birds live in your yard, if you keep them as pets, or if they are free to migrate. I thought parrots were on the endangered species list and these lorikeets look a lot like parrots.

Truthfully..your WOYWW would never hold a candle to the beautiful birds you have in your yard. WOW..I would accomplish nothing if I had an idea there would be that beauty in our outdoors. I'd sit and watch for hours..Happy WOYWW and your Calligraphy is beautiful.

Amazing to have Lorikeets as common or garden birds, when we see them as hugely exotic! When my parents lived inSydney they were regular visitors to her 23rd floor window garden! (2 tiny plant pots glued to the ledge containing herb!!)

Your calligraphy made me smile, it's so beautiful. I'm sure Morti's mum will have loved her gift. I love work that involves text - I used to live in the North of England and regularly went to Durham Cathedral (one of the best in my opinion!) where the Lindisfarne Gospels are kept. I defy anyone not to be moved and awed by the sheer magnificence and beauty of what those monks created centuries ago.

ReplyDeleteHow fabulous to have lorikeets visiting your yard! We do not have such colourful exotic birds in our yards in Canada. Although we did once have two peacocks that had come from a local petting zoo from miles away! That was a surprise!

I've also gazed for ages at The Book of Kells in Dublin on a visit there many years ago. Beautiful work Shaz I'm sure both Morti, her mum and you other customer must have been thrilled. Love the parrots, Mother Nature really does have a sense of humour! I've been wathcing McClouds Daughters reecently, and there are some birds regularly heard on there that I'd love to know what they are!! You never see them, only hear them and they're never referred too!!

Hi Sahz, your calligraphy pieces are just beautiful - the gold work is fabulous. The one for Morti's mum is gorgeous, what a lovely gift for her to give. What brilliantly colourful birds to have visit your garden - blue tits are about as colourful as I get in mine, though I do love them anyway. Congratulations on the finished article...I managed to finish up today too...just need to start work on 14 card orders tomorrow....I also love your cards....had a great time reading your brother's blog...have sent it to my son who is an avid follower...he was here yest and was rushing home to see it all at his own large screen.

Glad you are having a day 'off'...hmmmm housework - did mine yest...could have written in the dust perfectly....thankless task however has to be done....I actually took the time to go for a walk today...and have a guided tour of a neighbours secret garden...take care....

ReplyDeleteAhh, yes - the rainbow lorikeets - one of my favourite birds. We have tons of them here. Many fly north for the winter but we usually still have 1 or 2 pairs that come for the daily "feed". They are such characters and become tame so quickly. The young baby birds are so cute and are so clumsy when they walk along our decking rail. They always make me smile and I just love their bright colours. Did you notice my Avatar is a snapshot of lorikeets at our feeder on our decking?
