WOYWW What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 111

Well our year is just flying by! It seems only yesterday we had the excitement of the second anniversary of our pIf for week 104, yet my maths makes it 7 weeks ago…

This week my desk is rather boring and rather empty of any craft but very industrious anyway. Here are the preparations for teaching the six year 8 (aged 14 yrs) in our church school, as you can see by the folder with black writing in the centre left – the subject is Calligraphy! These are 3 boys and 3 girls, and my chief prayer at present is that none are left-handed. It is always more difficult for calligraphy. They drag their hand across their work. Now if we wrote right to left it would not matter, but we write left to right. I taught one boy the first time I did it about 12 years ago now and he was actually very good, so it was a blessing.

Also on my desk are photos of previous student’s works, ( bottom right) I always show them these so they can see where we are aiming. To the extreme bottom right, you can just see the edge of some of the homework sheets. I am going there today at lunch time to do all the photocopying for the course, which is two periods on a Thursday. You can see a calligraphic bookmark to the centre left with my name on it and definition and this is the second project. The illuminated Bible text is the third and the first project is the card verse done inside. I have some sample cards on top right next to pink cancer bear.
For those of you who are puzzled why we are looking at work desks...do join in the fun take a trip over to our very own royal hostess, Julia, and drop by Julia's Stamping Ground!

Happy WOYWW everyone and may God bless you wherever you are..

PS. I was asked by Lisa of Lisa's Craft Garden to show some more pickies of beaches where I go walking, so I have done this in the post below, if you wish to take a look.

  9. Good for you for passing on calligraphy skills - hope the kids have fun! I loved the beach shots from the previous post, I particularly remember Noosa from my trip, beautiful! Will have to post pics of 'my' beach in South Wales, where I grew up. It's beautiful too, in a wild, windswept, Welsh way :D xx

  14. Hi Shaz,
Good luck with the new students they could not ask for a better teacher :-)
Just had a look at your previous post what a beautiful place to live, I don't know how you get your crafting done, I'd be out walking that beach all day, well maybe I'd have my paints with me.

  17. Teaching kids is hard work in all the preparation that goes into it, but so rewarding at the end. I have lots of lefties in my art classes, but at least they can start on the right hand side of their canvas so they don't drag their hands through the wet paint!

  19. Have fun with the calligraphy lessons! That is so cool! As a left hander, I can attest that it is definately harder to have legible, unsmudged penmanship! LOL! So we are either aweful or really neat. Thanks for sharing- Amanda #45

  21. Awesome looking desk Shaz. I love teaching kids that age they are like sponges soaking it all up. Even if they have a tough exterior they absorb a lot. Good luck with your class. Beautiful work. The calligraphy and the teaching! Vickie

  25. I know how awkward it was when I first attempted calligraphy. I compromised by holding my pen at the same angle as a right handed person. I soon managed to feel comfortable like this and still do, 50 years on!
I'm sure you will inspire them all, left or right handed, when they see your work.
    Great photos this week too,

  26. Looks like you could be doing an online course from all the other comments, Shaz. I'd be there too!!
What lucky young people to have you to teach them this beautiful craft.
Good Luck with it all and thanks so much for sharing those beaches, even Hubby stopped to have a look and said wistfully how nice it must be to have them on your doorstep!!
    Happy WOYWW
