Well here we are another week and another Wednesday and for the curious among you, I have the cards today with the last two weeks experiments - the Magical Micas on tissue, and the Dreamweaver Embossing paste, plus a ring-in as it was for an order and so whipped up a favourite of mine, a brayer card.
However I am running ahead of myself!
On my desk you can see that I am not really doing anything terribly interesting. I buy large sheets of cardboard (ie poster size at local Newsagent, etc.) and then use my "T" ruler to divide it into 4 sheets then cut it up with my roller cutter (on the left). It means I get nice colours for backgrounds mounting mainly, at a reasonable price
On the right of the desk are two book marks made by my calligraphy students, one bookmark peeking above the other. They are to be trimmed, mounted and laminated.
The first card is one of my Embossing paste cards. The rest in Christmas Stencil on my desk last week are on the post below or click HERE. This rose is made using an el-cheapo stencil I bought for $2 years ago in 1990's at a $2 shop, it was in early days of card making. That shop closed long ago. Also used pre-embossed cardstock, and cut Nesties labels 9 to make a frame around it, plus green cardstock.
For those of you who missed the tissue with Magical Mica post, see here. I thought it would card up well and pleased with the result if not with the photo. Unhappily you simply cannot see the sheen of actual micas on the tissue in a photo - however the shimmer of micas is lovely IRL. I have used Crafty Individuals Discovery Ship with this and Curvy Rectangle Nesties. The brass coloured photo corners led me to colour the image the way I have. Also have used some of the micas on the webbing on the card and in the picture - and did 3D with another ship on top and used Dimensional Magic on it as well (not that this is really visible!).
The brayer card is using Stampin' Up Certainly Celery and Bashful Blue - you load both up on brayer and ink up the Kromcote glossy cardstock (for brayer tips see early Brayer links on sidebar, under Brayer). Used Stamping Up discontinued stamp set (from eBay) Asian Artistry, and also Stamping Up embossing folder, Lattice, plus a K Kingdom Dragonfliy. I inked the lattice pale blue cardstock with slightly darker blue shade and distressed the dragonfly folder on white core cardstock to make the embossing pop.
Then added two brads. These were the wrong colour so used a black Texta to change them. Used labels 4 Nestie to frame it. However I forgot to mount it properly so it was not finished quite how I meant it to be - too late once taped down though, so will make it again properly another day.

For those of you not in the know – this is the day of the week when folks from all over the world take a peek at one another’s desk to see just what we are up to – a great time of learning and fun, so do hop over to our wonderful hostess’ blog, at Julia's Stamping Ground!
Happy WOYWW everyone and may God bless your day wherever you may be!

Am awake with the lark this morning, so I thought I'd get on with desk-peeking while my menfolk are still asleep! You've had a productive week, haven't you!! Great cards, all different but equally fab. As a non-cardmaker though, I haven't a clue about all the techniques you decribe - but I really love the results!! My fav is the oriental card with the little bird and dragonflies - I've always loved Japanese and Chinese Art. I took Son No 2 to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford recently - the stuff in their oriental section was stunning. I could have taken a few things home, only my handbag wasn't big enough....darn!! Have a great week :D
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card this week shaz,my you have been busy have fab wednesday

Your desk is filled with wonderful things, I wish I could come for a play date! Love the cards, the brayer one is my favourite!
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW.
Good idea to use cheaper card stock for mats etc, means you can spend you money on other toys... I love the dragonfly card and the way you distressed the embossing and repeated the little black ones with a punch. Your students look like they are doing really well, they must have a good teacher! Congrats to you!
ReplyDeleteI love that brayer card, so simple and elegant. Happy WOYWW! Mel x18
ReplyDeleteOh, Shaz, you can't say there is nothing interesting here! Love your cards.... so pretty!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
That Mica did 'card up' well - the texture and 'atmosphere' it gives the card is lovely. Whenyou say you have calligraphy students - do you have to mark them? How? I understand the svaings in buying a big piece of card, but am in awe at your being able to cut straight. Or indeed, in my case, make a straight line with a ruler!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Shaz! Look at you #1 here at Julia's! I didn't get to post for this today, but should be back next week...love all your projects and am so glad to see a little corner of the bookmarks your students made. Have a great day girl!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun, love the ideas and the photos of the cards are beautiful. Sounds like you have lots to keep busy with. Enjoy WOYWW
ReplyDeleteThat's really a good ide to cut up large sheets. But you need to have the tools for it or you'll end up like mine all crucked. :) Great stuff!

ReplyDeleteLovely cards, Shaz. Like all the embossed card, especially the dragonfly one on the brayered card which is just lovely - love the the little bird stamp. The ship and mica card is just beautiful - I find photographing shiny stuff really difficult too. You've clearly had a busy week and I look forward to seeing what you make this week. Elizabeth x #51

Wow Shaz - all your cards are gorgeous! The rose looks really amazing too - so stunning with the gold. I always learn something new - some new technique or some new products that I have never seen before - every time I stop by your Blog. Always something wonderful to see. And I always appreciate the links so I know where to go to find out more info too.
