My desk ~ playing with inky joy! Saw on a WOYWW desk (Debs ~ see here) two weeks ago about tins and the embossing thereof.
Next day at a friends house and having a teeny tin of coke (200ml size) and much finer than normal cans of drink. I struggle with my hands and have never tried cutting up bigger ones but thought would give these a go..
Voilà! the results, using Cuttlebug Clockworks embossing folder, blending fluid, alcohol inks - Brass + Pesto from Adirondack.

The Oriental Stamp Art Mingle "Black + one colour - Green" is the colour choice for April, here is my offering.
Artneko ATC stamp set - Chrysanthemum, and these are on half price sale the moment!
The image was coloured with Prismacolor pencils, and PanPastels for background.
Mounted on Couture creations
Victorian rectangle with embossed foil and black outline. Used brand
new Craft Concepts embossing folder called "Silver fern" + wiped it over
lightly with white chalk pad, to highlight embossing..
{wow! actually found we had
a newsagent with a good array of crafty goodies - embossing folders, cardstock, stamps, few dies as well, came out with nice goodies about 15
mins south of here, which is probably just as well :D}
Added ribbon and two small brads.
I will close with few images of Oz, the first is a beautiful tree in flowering around town, for our autumn. 
Golden Penda Tree (see link here) , a native street tree, in flower at the moment.

ReplyDeleteDo you have tomato puree in tubes in Oz. I've used them (empty!) to cut up for cards. Soft & have the most gorgeous coppery colour inside.

WOW...almost makes me want to drink Coke!! The metalworks is just fab. We're still waiting for Spring so it was lovely to see a tree in full bloom. Happy WOYWW.

I adore that steampunky metalwork....you clever thing, it's brilliant and I wouldn't have guessed in a million years that it started out as a Coke can!!

How strange, metal embossing is my next workshop, lovely shape you cut and I do like the top folder. Never heard of the other one but it is lovely.

Glitter- anything labelled as Ultra Fine- I have bought lots from e-bay. comes in little plastic bags, so its a good idea to have a look for little storage pots too.Although, I have seen a lot of people using salt/pepper shakers for it. When I'd emptied the bags into pots, I found there was often glitter still stuck to the inside of the bags. I'd put them all to one side, then cut them open & wiped all the residue onto a sheet of paper, all mixed together. I got about half a pot of 'rainbow' glitter out of that! As for the glue, any clear drying PVA. Thats the only important bit, it must dry clear. I'm currently using Anitas brand, but I've used lots of others too. Hugs, Shaz xx

Cool tin! And I see a sponge dabber? Do you put the ink on it or on the tin then dab it around? Love the effect and would like to emulate too. I have tin that's flat already so no cutting soda cans for me. The green card is fab! Happy WOYWW! Nan #19

I would never have thought of using coke cans in my crafting, but that is such an impressive piece of work. That tree is so beautiful. does it have a perfume? ReplyDeleteI quite often emboss glue tubes (with out the glue!) I save them all up,and they look fabulous embossed! must show a few of the cards, but I never seem to have time these last few months!

ReplyDeletewell it is worth buying coke for, I really must have a go at this... recycling at it's best. I love the cogs I have a folder very similar. the tree is beautiful have you ever tried to dry the flowers ... if you are allowed to pick them, sadly am I thinking Christmas decs here?

So many different goodies to drool over on your blog today. Your metal embossing was 'to die for'. I always fall for patina stuff, and you did a great job on this one. Loved your green card too, and terrific work with the EF. Really set off your focal image, which was colored so marvelously. And always enjoy seeing what is going on in your area. OH my thanks for the welcome too. Love the tin work!! I have done that in the past but not for awhile...I suspect it shall come up in my weekly Tuesday tip or technique at some stage. I miss the Eastern Ocean so much...I'm so glad you do beach photos.

Hi Shaz - It's official: I've adopted better late than never as my personal creed. Somehow the week just slipped away from me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to see a step by step on your calligraphy...which is just gorgeous. And as always I appreciate your stunning pictures. Especially because there is no snow in them. April really is still winter here (although we are loathe to admit it) and it has been snowing for 3 days now. Sigh.
