My desk ~ playing with inky joy! Saw on a WOYWW desk (Debs ~ see here) two weeks ago about tins and the embossing thereof.
Next day at a friends house and having a teeny tin of coke (200ml size) and much finer than normal cans of drink. I struggle with my hands and have never tried cutting up bigger ones but thought would give these a go..
VoilĂ ! the results, using Cuttlebug Clockworks embossing folder, blending fluid, alcohol inks - Brass + Pesto from Adirondack.

The Oriental Stamp Art Mingle "Black + one colour - Green" is the colour choice for April, here is my offering.
Artneko ATC stamp set - Chrysanthemum, and these are on half price sale the moment!
The image was coloured with Prismacolor pencils, and PanPastels for background.
Mounted on Couture creations
Victorian rectangle with embossed foil and black outline. Used brand
new Craft Concepts embossing folder called "Silver fern" + wiped it over
lightly with white chalk pad, to highlight embossing..
{wow! actually found we had
a newsagent with a good array of crafty goodies - embossing folders, cardstock, stamps, few dies as well, came out with nice goodies about 15
mins south of here, which is probably just as well :D}
Added ribbon and two small brads.
I will close with few images of Oz, the first is a beautiful tree in flowering around town, for our autumn.
Golden Penda Tree (see link here) , a native street tree, in flower at the moment.
Very popular and you can see why!!

ReplyDeleteDo you have tomato puree in tubes in Oz. I've used them (empty!) to cut up for cards. Soft & have the most gorgeous coppery colour inside.

How strange, metal embossing is my next workshop, lovely shape you cut and I do like the top folder. Never heard of the other one but it is lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove the tree, wish we had such a bright sunshine yellow in our streets. We have a lovely cherry blossom but it doesn't last long.
Thanks for the harbour pictures, I so look forward to seeing a beach scene from you.
Just read your post about the eagles, thank you! So interesting, and with a lesson for us.

Hi Shaz, that coke can turned out fabulous. Its another technique I keep meaning to try, definitely going to have a go now. Congrats on being the Stamp Artist of the Month, its very well deserved, your work is always awesome. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz.xx
ReplyDeleteHi again SHaz. Glitter- anything labelled as Ultra Fine- I have bought lots from e-bay. comes in little plastic bags, so its a good idea to have a look for little storage pots too.Although, I have seen a lot of people using salt/pepper shakers for it. When I'd emptied the bags into pots, I found there was often glitter still stuck to the inside of the bags. I'd put them all to one side, then cut them open & wiped all the residue onto a sheet of paper, all mixed together. I got about half a pot of 'rainbow' glitter out of that! As for the glue, any clear drying PVA. Thats the only important bit, it must dry clear. I'm currently using Anitas brand, but I've used lots of others too. Hugs, Shaz xx
ReplyDeleteCutting a coke tin into something different is yet another project we've wanted to try for a while but not got round to. See your creation inspires us though, it's lovely.
ReplyDeleteWaving hi from the bears @#69 this week.
Beautiful work, Shaz. Was that REALLY a can of coke in a former life??? Amazing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures, too. You live in a very beautiful part of God's world.
Thanks for visiting my site last week.

Cool tin! And I see a sponge dabber? Do you put the ink on it or on the tin then dab it around? Love the effect and would like to emulate too. I have tin that's flat already so no cutting soda cans for me. The green card is fab! Happy WOYWW! Nan #19

I would never have thought of using coke cans in my crafting, but that is such an impressive piece of work. That tree is so beautiful. does it have a perfume? It looks as though it should do, if you know what I mean. Thank you for your visits today and your lovely comments. Have a good week. xx Maggie #16

So many different goodies to drool over on your blog today. Your metal embossing was 'to die for'. I always fall for patina stuff, and you did a great job on this one. Loved your green card too, and terrific work with the EF. Really set off your focal image, which was colored so marvelously. And always enjoy seeing what is going on in your area. So strange, you are getting ready for autumn, and we are waiting on Spring to finally arrive! TFS such a fun & interesting post. Hugs
ReplyDeleteYour play with the can of coke tin looks fantastic. The colours are lovely. Those yellow flowering trees are pretty. Are they from the Bottle Brush family?
ReplyDeleteReally chuffed you pulled my name from the bag.
Hugs Mrs A.
I LOVE your amazing soda can project- such a beautiful background! Gorgeous card!
ReplyDeleteThe metallic backgrounds look great. Shaz. I need to play around with these colors. I seem to keep using the same color combo of Stream, Wild Plum, and Purple Twilight. I really need to get out of that rut and your cards are inspirational. TFS
ReplyDeleteCoke tins are great to work with, lovely.

Hi Shaz
ReplyDeleteI'm late again LOL...I think I may have to give up my Thursday evening shifts so I can play better in WOYWW LOL. What time was it here when Julia put the link up? OH my thanks for the welcome too. Love the tin work!! I have done that in the past but not for awhile...I suspect it shall come up in my weekly Tuesday tip or technique at some stage. I miss the Eastern Ocean so much...I'm so glad you do beach photos.
hugs

Your coke can is amazing. I'd frame it just as it is and gaze at it adoringly.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated WOYWW.
Cheers, Rachel #34
Thank you for visiting me this week! SueC#94
ReplyDeleteHi Shaz, great post - love your embossed metal. I never have any drink cans around - we generally chose bottles of pop - so I haven't tried this but it looks super.
ReplyDeleteLove your green/black card - Silver Fern is one of my favourite folders. The Chrysanthemum topper is beautiful.
And aren't you lucky to have such beautiful native street tree - it's surely guaranteed to brighten up any street.
You mentioned Beadazzles in your comment so, just for you, I've put a pic on my most recent post with an explanation of what exactly they are.
Hugs,
Elizabeth xx
Beautiful card. I love that fern EB folder...wiping it with the whitish wash looks great.
ReplyDeleteAmazing that you could create that wonderful tin piece from a coke can!!!
Hi Shaz - It's official: I've adopted better late than never as my personal creed. Somehow the week just slipped away from me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to see a step by step on your calligraphy...which is just gorgeous. And as always I appreciate your stunning pictures. Especially because there is no snow in them. April really is still winter here (although we are loathe to admit it) and it has been snowing for 3 days now. Sigh.
All the better to stay in the art room and play I say!
See you again in a couple of days.
