WOYWW + Calligraphy bookmarks

Well, here is part of the desk today - very much in hurry! Craft room actually is all packed away as having NBN put in there - for those not n Oz it is the new fibre phone and internet lines - we have to upgrade, it is not optional.
I have been wanting this set of Perfect Layers Rulers for while now (they were not cheap) but wow they are fab! (Seen first on Jocelyn's blog - Instead of Ironing blogspot on here lovely cards)
I have just bought this set from Joanna Sheen ( have free post, even to Oz) as they were the cheapest I could find, on wishlist for sooo long. They really made mounting this set so much easier, and actually made the having to do this the excuse to buy. Still boo-booed twice when could not cut straight because hands dont co-operate, but that is the user not the tool.
These are my students in this years calligraphy class with second project, their book marks; they are now working on their texts - they are years 7/ 8 (about 14 years). This is why have been absent from WOYWW, as have not had time or energy to blog - will be last time I teach a group. Just too draining.
Here is a sunset from the window a week ago when was in Brisbane staying at my family's place - not bad bedroom view is it? In distance is the Brisbane river, not visible as below the tree line.
First shot shows a subdued scene but second photos is as I saw it - the beauty of the mauve tones of God's creation - the Jacaranda tree in their drive and the sunset light fading in background.
Click in larger size to see it better.
The purpose of this post is to show my workdesk and link over to Julia's so had better do so - here she is, to peek at all the other folk's desk for What in On Your Workdesk Wednesday, go right over here!!
Happy WOYWW every one and may God bless your day wherever you may be - may or may not be able to comment much, so apologies in advance.

PS please dont forget to peek at my blog candy - all welcome to join, please do!!! see post for details please.

PPS. and sorry commenting and internet access is intermittent as being updated to National Broadband Network (NBN) and issues have arisen .. "craftroom-cum-now-computer-room" totally all packed up, while we wait for techno-geeks to work out why it did not go as smoothly as it should have done! I am using the old internet for this post.

  13. Haven't heard of those rulers before but they look interesting. Joanna Sheen is a great site I've bought from her before. Pretty bookmarks but I can imagine how tiring it is to teach. Hope the upgrade work is finished soon so you can get back to crafting! I've emailed you.

  14. Hi Shaz, I hope the NBN is up and working fine for you by the time you read this. Happily, I can see the beautiful bookmarks and the Perfect Layer rulers. I've seen these demonstrated on TV several times and thought they looked a useful tool to have. As usual, I really appreciate your photos of Oz, especially now that we are going into winter here in Scotland :) Take care and I hope you have a good week. Elizabeth x #41

  23. Sharon, as always you know I enjoy your area photographs. You had a most lovely view. On the rulers: I have been considering a purchase of these for a bit. No they are not cheap. I'm glad to hear another testimonial that the rulers work well. Another blogger has been using them very effectively, and I love matting. Thanks for the info on the rulers, and glad you are back from your vacation. Hugs & Blessings.

  24. Love the bookmarks Shaz - your students have done a brilliant job. Ahh, those Perfect Layers Tools - one of my best investments ever (thanks for linking to my blog - so sweet of you!). Think I must be a bad influence on your hip pocket LOL!

Hey Shaz: I dusted off my brayer and been using your instructions to help me master the jolly thing - and actually been pleased with the results (thank you *big smiles*). Hope to make my samples into some cards soon.

Love your photos - they are stunning. Wish Jacaranda trees could grow where I live but we are much colder in winter at night than Melbourne city and have severe frosts. Lost a few plants this past winter after having night after night of below zero - whereas Melbourne city was about 5 degrees as their minimum. Poor plants just burned to a crisp - one or two recovered, but most turned up their toes.

  27. HI Shaz, Glad you are up to WOYWWing this week.
That calligraphy on those bookmarks is wonderful, far better that I could ever do and I am more than 4 times their ages.
Would you like a UK holiday and you can come and teach me!!!
I love the Jacaranda tree, I remember them from when I was a kid in Africa, God was on form the day he created them. As he ws when he created everything else but soemthings are just so beautiful it almost hurt.
    Bless you

  28. Those bookmarks are wonderful! Wow! What talented students and superb teacher! I am impressed! I have had those perfect layers rulers for a year now. They are really helpful! Not perfect, you have to flip up the edge of your card sometimes and the rulers can slip, but still so much easier to use! Tip! Use the rulers to draw lines at the different widths on a small piece of card, I laminated mine too. Then when you want to decide on the width of your layer, use your piece of card to help you.

  29. so glad you added them - based on the comments I thought it was just me that couldn't see them and was disappointed :) Now I am impressed. They are lovely! Great teaching, I'm sure, was a big part of the success :)

    Happy WOYWW mark 2
