Shaker Card + Elizabeth Crafts Happy Birthday die Bizzy Bec's DT post + Friday Smiles

(WOYWW post down below or click here)

Hullo there everyone, time again for a mid month post for my DT over at Bizzy Bec's.. and those of you who know me, know I often do a tutorial.
Today - shaker cards using positive and negative of a word die - a happy birthday die!
You get two cards for the price of one!
The Elizabeth crafts Happy Birthday word die, a stunning die, very easy to use positive and negative.  Also using the Cottage Cutz Stitched ovals.

Step 1 die cut out the centre of the shaker card with die cut of choice. On underside add the acetate for the shaker bits to go under. I put on the top of it (but not essential) a frame from same size oval and next one up and mount with double sided mounting tape, cut to size and pop it up on the outside. see below.
Step 2 the completed front part of the card, ready with acetate, frame and embossed front sheet.
Step 3: Here's a snippet of inky photo paper, made with Distress Ink pads (Mustard seed, Spiced marmalade pads, SU Lively lavender + Peeled paint re-inkers) and damp crumpled cling wrap method. Gloss card is smooched with random inks, damped scrunched cling wrap is laid over it to dry.
Add double sided tape to back of piece for word die. Cut the word die.
Step 4: Added the sheet of photo paper to a snippet of white card, after cutting it, peeling off the positive of the word die to expose the intact negative of the die on lower layer.
I have cut another word die cut out of white craft foam (adding double sided tape on the back of it also), for the happy birthday die.
Lay the positive layer on top of foam cut so it pops up nicely on the card.
Step 5: I decided I needed to match the colours of the die cut with the background for shaker, so really mixed media here! Some torn up tissue paper, glued on scrap of card, coloured with similar toned sprays.
Step 6: Here are all the shaker elements in the inside of the foam layer, it was die cut with inside size die, then adhered with tape + non tacky glue to the back. I say non-tacky cos tacky glue can stick to sequins, etc.
Step 7. Add seal on back of shaker, I used some anti static powder on back of the acetate. The seal on back of foam needs to be complete before turning it over.

Completed card 1, also used embossing folder by *Taylored Expressions called Snow fall, *available from Bec.- although not on site. I actually embossed it from both ends to extend the embossing.
Card 2: You probably cant see it but used Spellbinder Pierced Rectangles die set to cut out the photo paper. Just used the pierced section to give a pierced edge. Two snippets of green used here,  folder is a 5 x 7" Cuttlebug one called Dominoes.
May God bless your day, every one - wherever you may be!
Thanks so much for popping over for a peek and chat.. will return your visits as soon as able, as am bit behind .. sorry!

  1. I've got photo paper, had planned to print out some photos but haven't gotten to it yet. Never thought of using it with inks. Thanks for the tip! Great idea using this paper and die for two cards, I definitely like the idea of letting nothing go to waste too.

  2. Clever idea using a glossy photo paper and also that of using tissue paper for the back of the shaker! Thanks for sharing! Two cards with one diecut it's great, and nothing waste! :D Love them both!
I'm impressed by the fab photos of the eagle! Wonderful free animal!

  3. Gorgeous Eagles. I didn't even know about that species. All I knew about were the American Bald Eagles which are our national bird. Thank you for sharing another bit of God's precious handiwork with us.

  4. WOW it looks absolutely how you made it !!

  5. Beautiful cards. I can certainly see how a die cutting machine would be handy for these.

That bird is beautiful, and very different from our American eagles which just recently were removed from the endangered species list. Have a wonderful rest of Friday and a great weekend.

  12. What fun cards Sharon!! I love the shaker card, cause who doesn't love to have an interactive card?! Your inky background is so cool, love it and love how it looks on both cards. I love that you used both the negative and positive parts to come up with both cards. But it is that die that I have fallen in love with, what a beautiful font! I might just have to invest in it. lol Your Aussi Eagle is amazing and so majestic just like our Eagles. The driver got some beautiful pictures!!! Hugs, Brenda

  19. Beautiful, love how you did the background for the sentiment, great colors and great tips on the shaker part of putting it all together, I totally forgot to use my anti static pad when doing mine, but once it was sealed there was no going back, LOL!

  20. Brilliant card, thanks for the tutorial. Cara x

  21. I love how shaker cards seem to be coming around again. Must be the onslaught of all the new sequin shapes :-) Yours is very pretty. Great shot of the birds. striking against that blue sky.

You commented on my 'pink cards'. Not a matter of making the cards.. those pink cards are the backing card for Studio G alphabet stamps. I am missing letters C and K. I'll post a shot of what they look like next Wednesday.

Yep, I've tried to incorporate homemade storage whenever possible in this new studio space. Hugs and Creative Blessings! Kelly #33

  22. Popping in a day late from Annie's Friday smiles. I think that bird is awesome but wouldn't want it landing on my head.
I like that you take time to make your cards so professional looking Shaz. I'm a rush it and on to the next thing type unfortunately

  24. Your cards are so beautiful and the shaker card is equisite! Thank you for the tutorial! That Happy Birthday die is wonderful! I love it! :O) Thank you for the photos of the wedge-tailed eagles, how magnificent!I love to see such amazing birds in the wild. xx

  25. It was interesting to read how you made your cards. I rather like the 'negative' cut one. The bird photos are amazing. They are beautiful birds anyway - as you say, all God's creations are beautiful - but it takes skill to catch them on camera like that! Kate x

  26. A beautiful card, Shaz. I love the colour scheme and the decorative die-cut sentiment, and the contrast between the rich colours and the white of the card base. Well done indeedy! And what stunning photos of a stunning creature - the wedge tailed eagle is a great example of our Creator's work! Fabulous pics.

Thank you for your visit and for your prayers. Since seeing the doctor yesterday I have been continuing with the painkillers and the steroid injection has done its work, and the pain is considerably reduced. I don't have a lot of movement in the arm yet but hoping that once I get a physio appointment, that will start to change. I am able to do a lot more now, and finding new ways of doing things with limited arm movement!

    God bless you.

  27. Hi Shaz,

Your cards are absolutely beautiful. I agree, that die is so lovely. The bird photos are amazing! Look at that wing span; it's probably longer than me!!!

  28. Two beautiful cards!

Thanks for joining us at Crafty Cardmakers!

  29. Very lovely card. Thank you for joining us at Crafty Cardmakers this week. Hope to see you back here again soon. Judy DT

  30. Such an awesome shaker card. We are so blessed that you joined our Challenge at Word Art Wednesday. We have a new Challenge going on and we hope you can link with us again. Leaving you with the inspiration of God’s Word in Jeremiah 32:17 which says, “‘Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.”

    God bless,
    JO ANN
