Different in more ways than one.
*Different design AND *different purpose.
Using same dies, stencils or stamps.
I really found this fun, partly becausealready made the purple card - specifically for the CAS Mixed Up Bokeh Challenge. The rectangle die I extended to double length on the second card, put it in landscape format. I did double stencilling on corner of a reject Bokeh piece, putting the original stencil back on one corner. I’m learning with mixed media that you can layer over the failed bits, ones you don’t like or die cut them out. It’s funny, I’ve always thought of mixed media as not CAS.
I tend towards CAS, and a lot of mixed media I have seen is most definitely not CAS. So learning all the time, aren’t we!? For those wondering what I’m doing a lot more challenges at the moment it’s because with summer down under and I have more free time to play! These are our summer holidays. I love them. Can’t swim at moment though as have leg infection which is a bit of a shame. But means I can read books and that’s good!
Items used: Both dies are CCD, masks are 1. From cheap craft shop (Stripe one) 2. Kaisercraft, two Bokeh stencils on Wednesday's desk. Inks Distress and Chalk ink. Ink dusters with DI and TH sponge with chalk.
To encrusted Jewel technique, mentioned on WOYWW, see Loll's magnificent card HERE. Except I used different colours as I've different stash. I've done more of this jewel encrusted technique with layering embossing powder. However you definitely need a heat mat if using a pan or griddle. It went through baking paper. I had a bit of mess, not much but some. One other thing my Shaved Ice melted white. Opaque white, not like Loll's. Even when used green glitter EP on another sample, it was still definitely white/ or really cream. Haven't made the others into cards yet.MFT Peekaoo window, MB Moonlight butterfly, stamp CCS. TH Mosaic stencil & iridescent paste. |
Ordered some cheap heat mats on eBay so will try again.
To the Aussie plus shots.
The skies are very blue, no rain for weeks, and the sea is very beautiful, this was the view in the evening of a family members 40th birthday on new year’s eve. It was a memorable day.
They came from Norway for it! I stayed in Norway with them in Aug/ Sept, so this second shot is from Norway.
They lived in the corner flat right at the top of that hill in Trondheim. The hill has a bike lift they lock in and it takes them up! It's a university town.
I’d loads of hill walking there and was glad I’d done some here too. Had an amazing view.
It’s very beautiful as were all the places I visited in my trip, but to be honest I believe I live in the best place in the world and that I am so very blessed to live here!
Thanks so much for popping over for peek and chat. You’re such a blessing to me. Don’t forget my new blog too over there at Wonderful Words of Life. I’d love it if you’d pop over, join and say hi there too. 💕
May God bless your day wherever you may be,

It looks as though you had a great trip, and I hope your legs is healing up nicely. Those cards are lovely, really elegant in style. Thank you for visiting my blog and for your lovely comments. xxx Maggie
ReplyDeleteSending prayers so that you leg heals quickly and completely, and then you can enjoy some swimming! It's winter here, and while I live in the "north," we've had virtually no snow, which makes this an unusual winter. Your cards are CASimply lovely! the colors are sweet, and the bokeh effect really enhances your birds. All that white space makes me smile! Your butterfly card is pretty as well. Thank you so much for joining us at the Twofer Challenge! Bev
ReplyDeleteI need to read up on the technique you’ve used here with embossing powders. Looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteI’ve never tried bokeh before either, and I love how these bird cards turned out.
Your cards are wonderful, as are the pictures!
ReplyDeleteFabulous cards Shaz. I hope you let gets better quickly but at least you have more time for crafting..hugs Loz
ReplyDeleteAmazing cards! I have never tried your techniques, but they works so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteSeems that you have had a fabulous trip, such amazing places in your photos!
Hugs!
Those are such beautiful cards Shaz. The bokeh effect is lovely and I really like the butterfly too. Even though I have no idea how you did either. After reading comments I’m realizing I must have missed something about your leg being injured. I hope it is healing now and I will pray for God’s great healing touch on you. You trip sounds lovely and I enjoyed the photos you shared. I have never been to Norway. Isn’t it amazing that most of us believe our home is the best place to be? I’m glad. Take care and happy Saturday.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Lovely card designs here Shaz - wonderful stenciling along with other techniques - loved reading about that bike rail to pull you up hills! thanks for sharing with us at CAS Stencil! xx
ReplyDeleteYour stencilled bird cards are fantastic Shaz, but oh my! That butterfly!! What a stunner, I bought alittle cheap electric frypan to try the encrusted technique and cut my TH craft mat up to fit. I need to turn the heat up more than I do though as I still use my heat gun to finish off. Less powders blow away though. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your cards with this technique, Cathy x
ReplyDeletePS Forgot to say your photos are lovely too, Cathy x
ReplyDeletethe birds are so pretty! I just love the butterfly and the texture in it.
ReplyDeleteSo nice your friends could come to visit and you are able to go there, it is so fun to go visit different areas.
Fantastic cards using the bokeh technique Shaz!! I LOVE that you kept the yellow background that didn't quite work out. Layering with another stencil really changes the look ... it's awesome! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up and Twofer Card Challenge!
ReplyDeleteAs for your encrusted jewel butterfly ... AMAZING! I love the texture you've achieved. Sorry to hear about the mess. I find parchment works for me, but it could be a different parchment than what you have in Aussie. Love the butterfly with your stenciled glitter background. Gorgeous creation! And thanks for sharing your picks. What a lovely day you had to celebrate your family member's 40th. That ocean is blue as blue can be. And loved the pics of Norway. Very cool place. xx

ReplyDeleteWow, gorgeous cards,
ReplyDeleteI love that birds die and how you’ve used it. Cara x
All your cards are so beautiful, Shaz. I Loved your bokeh backgrounds and your layered heat embossing on your birds. Beautiful colors too. Your Layered stenciled background is so glittery and gorgeous and your butterfly is absolutely Amazing. TFS your photos of your trip to Norway. I am 2nd generation Norwegian and live on the Oregon coast. I visited Norway in 2010, but only got as far north as Bergen. Visited family in Stavanger and on the coast south of Oslo. The country reminded me of Oregon:-) TFS your cards and vacation photos and sharing your card with us at CAS Mix Up. Hugs..Nancy
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always so enjoyable, Shaz, from the beautiful art work to the sensational photography! Your Twofer cards are technically divine with the bokeh and stenciling and pretty colors! I also love your encrusted butterfly and how she landed on the glittery gorgeous background! This time you treated us to a local photo as well as the photos of your trip to Norway! Incredible! I think that bike lift is fascinating!! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #12! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteHiya Shaz, loving those cards with the birds. I have a feeling I may have bought that die too. Just saw your comment on Margs blog- Ant is used as a shortened form of Antony over here- he's my Beloved Eldest son, lol.Hugs, Shaz X
ReplyDeleteLove both of your bird cards for Darnell's challenge. Back grounds are superb and then I scrolled down and found the beautiful butterfly. Oh my gosh so so pretty. Thankyou for coming and spinning the butterfly wheel with me this week. I'm struggling with a locked shoulder at the moment so only doing minimal crafting. Doing lots of reading instead as I bought the complete Outlander series of books. Nearly finished book 3 . Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards Shaz, loving them to bits. Happy crafting, Angela xxx
ReplyDeleteAmazing bird twofer. I like backgrounds on both cards. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing photos of your country and of Norway.
Your Twofers are wonderful. I liked the photos as well.
ReplyDeleteYour cards are all wonderful. Love the birds. So glad you participated in our Challenge and we hope you'll join us again. Want to leave your with an inspiration from the Bible in Isaiah 55:6-7 which says, "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon." Have a wonderful week.

Wow, love how you took the one background that you didn't care for and remade part of it by stenciling over part of it! I didn't know you could do that but it makes sense. Love how both of your twofers came out Sharon, they both look great! I also am so loving that beautiful encrusted butterfly! I used my craft sheet that you can heat on and put in my pan to heat my encrusted projects. I find that I can "peel" off anything that sticks to it and it protects the pan as well. So if you have some craft sheets, like baking ones, you can use that to keep the mess at bay. Love the Aussie beach shot, so beautiful and I think I can feel a nice summer breeze! I also love the Norway photo's, again so beautiful. That bike lift is really cool, never saw anything like that, but then again, I don't get out much! lol Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards...so very nicely done! I also enjoyed seeing your pics! Thanks for sharing!
