2011 Students Illuminated Texts + Happy WOYWW!

Hi there everyone -  happy WOYWW - What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday! My my desk is nice and satisfying today - here are the almost completed works by my calligraphy students (Year 8, aged about 14years) as promised a whole term ago now!

This first shot shows me in the process of getting them ready for framing.
For those of you who remember, I had shown their bookmarks some weeks back (click here), or I will put a picture of it a the bottom of this post also..
There is the gold leaf on the lower right of the picture. It is on tissue paper and you put gilding size on paper and then 20 minutes later (up to 40 hours) you can apply the gold leaf. The students put on the gilding size but I applied the 23 carat gold leaf. It is expensive of course but it is beautiful and never tarnishes. Gilding mix is the small jar with gold lid - very tacky, and it is painted on with a fine 000 brush.
Below we see each of the six of them framed (without glass for best photography). They chose their verses and the colours too, which was governed by the matt they had chosen. They are not in any particular order (although they have been marked :D).

Here is my desk now – with the framed (and with glass) texts on it. At the very top of it you can see some delicious loot from the visit to the doctor's in Sydney - a real benefit is that it is across the road from the Oxford St Art shop which sells the most amazing papers and other items. I was very good and did not look out any stamping/craft stores. Even looking can be deadly so stayed clear.

For those of you who love to have a peek join the rest of the world peeking at desks at  Julia's Stamping Ground!

Thanks to those of you who kindly stop by  and chat. May God bless your day wherever you may be.

Shaz in Oz.x

PS thanks for your kind thoughts andwords last week everyone, almost there. ; D

Also a BIG and very special thank you to my dad's friend, Howard, who kindly helped out with the matts for the framing of these beautiful works - and all the glory should go to the LORD, Whose beautiful Words these are...

PPS. Here is photo of the bookmarks as realised later there were not all of them on the previous post.

  1. Hi Shaz, these are really nice pieces of work and lovely verses. You've obviously done another marvelous job teaching this lovely art...and I think your students also seem to have to have learned well. This would be quite encouraging for you for sure. I miss you and hope all is well.
    God bless,
    Sarah

  3. Lovely work, but I would hate to have to grade it. It would just be too hard. The all did fab from the photo, so better be A* for all! Yes, yes, I know that's unrealistic, but still. Far better than I could ever manage.

And an apple for teacher :)

  15. What good students you have to produce such excellent work. Well done to you are their teacher, you must be so proud. Thank you for your visit this morning. The Silhouette is the same as the Craft Robo or the Wishblade. The same software runs all three. It is a die cutting machine, and you can program it to cut your own designs or buy pre-desdesigned things on the web. There are also thousands of free designs that others have created and posted for the rest of us to use.

  17. Just lovely Shaz, as their teacher I hope you're proud of them. Nice to get a bit of retail therapy in when you had to be in Sydney for an errand. Glad to hear you're a little better and I hope you continue to improve. Stay positive.

  20. Hey Shaz - sorry I've not been by for ages, life just gets in the way and I've been rather busy. I did get your email (eventually, blinking broadband) - all AOK, and Mum loved the Calligraphy. Had to remount though cos it got bent in transit. (The mount, fortunately, not the work! Phew!). Fab work from your students on your desk....

  29. Glad you are recovering as I am - slowly but getting there. My goodness, you were throwing those students in at the deep end well and truly...illumination, gold leaf......I'm sure they are delighted with it all.
Thanks for the translation from Viki...never would have thought of that from Google, silly me.
Can I prevail upon you to spare some prayers for a young mother called Heather who has had multiple operations (bowel related) and is really in quite a serious condition....would be grateful....her husband in a very young Pastor who is doing great work especially with young folks....obviously all this has taken a back seat because of his wife's illness. They have two young boys in Primary school. Would be grateful to you and yours. She's a lovely Christian girl who hasn't been well enough to help her husband in his outreach and around his church - their church is right beside the Giant's Causeway...one of the world's wonders.

  30. These are absolutely gorgeous, Shaz. I am so impressed that such young students have produced such excellent work - no doubt in no small part due to your excellent teaching and encouragement! Also very encouraging to see that they have all done beautiful Scripture verses. Real heirlooms! Happy WOYWW. Shoshi #84

  38. Hi Shaz! I cant believe that Blogger is letting me comment tonight!
Your students should be so proud of themselves! I am impressed with their work and am also jealous. I tried caligraphy years ago and found it is a lot harder than you think.
Have a feeling that those guys had a marvelous teacher by the way! Well done!
    Hugs,
    Sheree
p.s. I put a link to your blog in my post yesterday along with one for Eileen.

  39. Your students did a fantastic job, but then, they had a great teacher! As a teacher myself, I find the look on a students face when they finish a new project even more satisfying than creating my own works of art sometimes.
Hope you are feeling a lot better real soon.
    Happy WOYWW
