Well, 'tis the 15th of the month so time for another DT post for Bizzy Bec's! Thought we'd take another look at the Bokeh method! (Japanese: [boke]) is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens)

| LESSON 1:
dont get it too wet or it will dry blotchy like mine.. I used distress
inks on watercolour but worked out afterwards used the wrong side of
watercolour paper pad too. LESSON 2: think re-inkers would be better but dont have many of those. |

| LESSON 3: when you die cut use heaviest quality piece of acetate as you can get, mine was. Scrap I had was from a lid, but noticed the video (link here) she had trouble with that. The white bubbles are overlapped and are done with chalk ink, it is better really if you dry between, I also did the different sizes it three (odd numbers -> better balance) of larger size then five (or so of next size and more of last size. |

| Have cut the two lots of prim poppies and arranged them on the oval die cut of Bokeh background. One bud I chose to use reverse side of bud, (ie turned it over so it faced other way). Shaped all flowers accordingly with shaping tool on mat. |

| This background was made see here, on last month's post..applied bokeh background then added the diecut frame with Tonic scalloped rectangle die, Butterfly is Joy Vintage Fourish butterfly and the thanks is CB Olivia alphabet die . discontinued years back. |

ReplyDeleteLoving these bokeh backgrounds, and how super they look with the wet distress inks. (the one you said looked blotchy, I thought looked great! Isn't it amazing how something you don't like, somebody else will?) Loved the way you've showcased them with the ovals, the die flowers and what pretty cards you've designed with your playtime backgrounds! Always enjoy your scenic pictures. Acorn is showing Martin Clunes Islands of Australia, and I'm looking forward to watching it. Saw it on Youtube - where somebody had posted it, but looking forward to a re-watch. The scenery was breath taking! TFS & Hugs.

Sorry for not being around for a while. My happy couples are keeping me super busy at the moment .. .. but I have been taking the opportunity for a catch up whilst I wait for more delivieries.

I've never tried this technique before. I think it looks great but I only just recently got myself a useful white ink. The bokeh effect adds interest to the backgrounds, I like that it's all more about the backgrounds than the rest.

I love this bokeh technique, Shaz. Your results are stunning! I have got some stoma gauges (to measure the size of your stoma so you can cut the bag to the right size) and these make brilliant stencils lol lol! The other Shaz on WOYWW (Silverwolf) roared with laughter at me using these - she has them too lol! I love thinking outside the box and using all sorts of stuff for art! I haven't tried bokeh and this would be an ideal use for them!

Thank you for your visit and your nice comment. Actually, it's as hands-on using the iPad Pro for drawing - the app is a blank canvas and the Apple Pencil can be whatever pen, brush or pencil you choose, and whatever size or colour - makes art on the go a doddle! I can do it from the comfort of the recliner too. I love working in layers as well. That being said, working with "real" stuff and working on the iPad are not mutually exclusive - I love to get ink all over my hands and work with physical stuff. The iPad is just another string to my creative bow!

ReplyDeleteSometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and ponder weird things. Last night it was, "Why am I dreaming about ducks?" and the other night it was, "What's that technique with the lighter colored circles called?" It took a lot of weird names before I settled on Bokeh. I wish I could remember the one I was so sure was right. It was a great word, definitely a technique with that name should be invented.
