Thank you for taking time to visit, and I hope I am even a tiny bit helpful as I have been helped and blessed by so many others. I have been doing Calligraphy since teens, and card making for many years as well. In 1990 I delighted in the joys of stamping with ink and embossing after a trip to Cairns, Qld. In 2009 I discovered the brayer, 2010 the Cuttlebug, also have now taking to reading up on crafting blogs and lo! Here I am, on one of my own.

WOYWW + Ink Brushes + Snippets card.

Hi there everyone.. well Wednesday almost over here and have been flat strap today, so late for posting for me.. for WOYWW or What is On Your Workdesk Wednesday over at Julia's, Queen of Deskland... see here!

Desk 1.. last night left midstream working out what base to put on this serviette card for an order.. for a change! Like the soft pink so that's put to one side.
Desk 2. I had ordered some of the makeup brushes like the "you-beaut" ones reviewed on you tube, etc. The branded ones are $50 here in Oz. Every review I've read says they're identical to make up brushes that've been available for years, so ordered some. Mine didn't take long to arrive yesterday, here doing a very quick test run.
One thing they do need is tapping off, used here with Distress inks. They've a very soft blending action. I tried on same cardstock the Inkylicious brushes. These are easier, I think to use, cos cover bigger area. But if you zoom in their blending is grainy. I'd need to blend it heaps more to get rid of the graininess. It would improve, but loads more work. Once I'm used to make up brushes they'll be great. Love the small sizes too as they'll be great for stencil work. For those unfamiliar with them here is a video. Loved that seller had them in purple, main colour in my craft room. BTW the makeup brushes cost Au$15.65 (£7.50, or $US10). A snippets card๐Ÿ˜Š below.. upcycled last year's card!
It's one of two cards from the one card, DP background and Unity Itty Bitty stamp with SU labels. Next lot of images were because yours truly had a birthday some time last month .. so these are my home made ones received. I was spoilt.
L TO R: top Anne in France, Marilyn, Darnell, bottom two from CCM on FB (thanks Linda and Debbie๐Ÿ˜Š) and pink from Shar's cards. Also on FB.
From the "Jays" - L to R Nat, Emily, Thomas (Dragon), Jay. ๐Ÿ˜Š aren't they great? How nice they sat down together and made me a card?! ❤❤❤❤
This one is from Iris, 85 dear Friend from Lincoln. Last year Margaret very kindly took me to see Iris. She lives near Mrs D. Iris, like Miss Di ,has hedgehogs in her garden and we saw them while I stayed there, hence the card.
To our Aussie photo.. here is the jetty beach where I went swimming two days ago. Next week more visitors so we will be swimming every day! Yay! Water is sooo warm. Maybe bit busy but hope to post next WOYWW.
For those wondering what's on the shoreline its cungy-boy swept up by big seas off the jetty structure. (See close up here). Really quite interesting. But Google does not recognise this name we've always called it?
Thanks very much for popping over for peek and chat, and may God bless your day wherever you may be.
Prayer hugs, Shaz in Oz.x.

Today's thought:
Isn't this a beautiful image and verse? For NOT A THING, nor anything, can separate from our Saviour and LORD when we are His by faith in the Lord Jesus unto Salvation.
"Lo", the Lord Jesus said, "I am with you always."

Yes, that is a beautiful image.
Lovely to see your birthday cards, if i had known I would have sent you one. Hope you had a lovely day, you certainly had some lovely cards.
Thanks for the interesting slant on the make up brushes, it will be interesting to see how you go on with both of them when you get to using them big time.
You take care, enjoy your visitors but don't tire yourself out.
God Bless, Neet 7 xx

Hi Shaz, I got some of those brushes too, and agree you can get a much softer blend. I even had someone comment on my post about them that she'd bought the 'name' brand for $50, and some of hers had 'foundation' and 'eye shadow' on the handles, so they clearly are an identical product. Lovely cards, Happy Belated Birthday!Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #5 X

What bugs me Shaz is that put top drawer price on obvious replicas of the make up ones. Seen lots of videos comparing both and not heard anything to contrary. Was very happy with mine and love the colour. Xx

Hi Shaz, Happy Belated birthday, you had some beautiful cards. I love the blue you've blended, looks very vibrant, I have those colours but usually go for broken china for some reason.
I bought a pack of cheap brushes from Joanns, they seem fine for what I use them for, I certainly wouldn't pay 50 for them
Happy WOYWW jan no19

Lovely snippets card, interesting to read on the make up brushes, i have the inklicious brushes too but by far find normal stencil brushes quicker, now i tend to only use my inklicious ones if i want a very light delicate background which isn't often with my love of colour:-) So many beautiful birthday cards to receive, love how with hand made cards no two are the same. Im lucky to have hedgehogs here too, they come into the porch at night in the warmer months and munch on the cat food - always love seeing them. Emmax

Such beautiful cards you received for your birthday Shaz. You are obviously very well loved. I wish I would have known it was your birthday, so I’m here wishing you a happy belated one, my friend. That is a lovely image and verse. And as always, I enjoy your ocean shots. I have never heard of a cudgy boy before. Quite interesting. The cards are all beautiful as always and very interesting to read how you make them. Wishing you a most lovely day my friend. Blessings, Betsy

Wonderful snippets card Shaz! And I love your Birthday cards - the hedgie one is adorable :) AND, Spike is back in town here after his Winter sleep. Thanks for the tip about the make-up brushes. I;ve found the Inkylicious ones can be a bit grainy unless you keep going over - which of course deepens any light colour effect you're after.

Sending love and a woof from Dudley! He's fast asleep beside me here with his head on Len's pillow :)

Hugs

Hi Shaz, not sure what time it is where you are but it's late here and I'm still trying to get round as it's just been one of those days when you run out of time. Great collection of cards you received and the hedgehog one is so sweet. Wishing you a lovely creative week and a happy woyww, Angela x16x

Happy Belated Birthday, such great fun cards you received. Like the gold framing you did around your nativity and sentiment.

Lovely card Shaz and thanks for the heads up on the blending brushes! When things are sold for a specific use they can command a higher price and it is a good idea to find an alternative! You received some beautiful Birthday cards but my favs are the ones the children made. Love the hedgehogs too, one of my fav little creatures! Thank you for Romans 8:39, so good to meditate on. xxx

Your card is beautiful Sharon, I love the image you recycled as it is what Christmas is all about. These blending brushes, which are exactly like the make up brushes, they can just charge more by making them crafty brushes-are more work from what I've seen. Not hard, but definitely seems like it takes more blending to get rid of the grainy appearance. I haven't tried them yet, I do have one in my stash that is a make up one that I happened to have two of. Was going to try it out but haven't yet. It seems either people love them or don't. Of course I'm sure there is a learning curve to them just like there was with the sponges. Just don't think it takes as much effort to blend, just have to do it longer or more layers so to speak. I am glad you were spoiled for your birthday, sorry I never sent a card. Hard to get out to that mail box with snow and ice and so I don't go out to even get the mail. Bret does for me. lol But some of it was laziness and not checking my dates too! Shame on me! Those hedgies are so dang cute! And I love the jetty beach photo's. So what are cungy-boy's? Just barnacles and such??? They sure are interesting looking! Yes, that image at the end and verse is just beautiful for sure and so true!!! Hugs, Brenda

Wow big cost difference on those brushes. I can't imagine paying $50 for a brush. That's ridiculous. Great cards. Dorlene #30

I love the image and the Bible quote, Shaz - I adore Rom. 8! What a splendid collection of cards, both yours and the ones you received. What a blessing. I am being so unproductive at the moment, but at least the blog is working properly again and I'm back with WOYWW which is a start! Thank you for your lovely comment. I am so sorry that you are so poorly, and I can well imagine your frustration over lack of communication between the various doctors. I have generally had such good care, and the communication between the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) during my cancer year was second to none. I am at peace about the upcoming appointment and will go with what they advise re having another operation or not. I'm in a pickle today - went to the dentist this a.m. for a temp. filling in a cracked wisdom tooth but as I suspected - the tooth next to it is also in trouble - he was going to X-ray it but didn't because he thought it was just the wisdom tooth - and since the anaesthetic wore off, it's hurting again, so I shall have to go back sooner than I'd hoped. I'm a real whimp at the dentist... I've also got laryngitis and absolutely no voice today! Never rains but it pours!

Happy belated WOYWW,

Hi Shaz. A very happy belated birthday wish - sorry - I had no idea your birthday was coming up... A gorgeous set of handmade birthday cards - and I love the hedgehogs Iris sent you. I popped in to see her when I was last with A&C - she was well and looking forward to Christmas (that's how long ago it was!!) Great Aussie shot of the beach - enjoy the swims.
Take care. God bless.

Awesome post, Shaz! I bought those purple brushes, too, but (of course!) I've yet to try them. I'm all thumbs when it comes to blending, so I'm hoping these will work beneath my fingers! Lovely cards, both made and received! You deserve all the love!! That last photo and verse really moved me, thank you for sharing! Enjoy your company! Hugs, Darnell

I am meaning to try some of those brushes, but I haven’t gotten round to order them. I have heard that here we can buy something similar in a store called 5 below. I might try that.

How wonderful to receive so many lovely cards for your birthday! Hope it was a joyous occasion.

HI Shaz, I am using my ( generic Amazon find makeup brushes for the Distress Oxide inks) I have not used them on the regular distress as I have a pile of hmmm mind just went blank little brushes from Judikins that look like the kinds from barber shops ( these are really old) so its interesting to see that the brushes worked differently for you with the inks. ~Stacy #28
