Thank you for taking time to visit, and I hope I am even a tiny bit helpful as I have been helped and blessed by so many others. I have been doing Calligraphy since teens, and card making for many years as well. In 1990 I delighted in the joys of stamping with ink and embossing after a trip to Cairns, Qld. In 2009 I discovered the brayer, 2010 the Cuttlebug, also have now taking to reading up on crafting blogs and lo! Here I am, on one of my own.

I live on the coast of eastern Australia. I am a Christian. I trusted in the LORD down here at the beach, amazingly it is not far from where I now live. It was over 50 years ago, after a Beach Mission Service at the age of 12 years

Watercolour paper from Cereal Box - GD Snippets Playground

Hi there everyone. A huge surprise last month, was asked by Miss Di of Snippets playground - would I be able to do Guest Designer on 3/12? Of course, I say! Truly honoured! Warning lots of photos, but fun things are learnt in this card! Experiment plus.. A peek!
Yes ... it maybe observed Christmas is rapidly approaching so of course I had to make a Christmas card!
So take a cereal box... and turn it over and colour on the white/ cream side with  watercolour markers, I used Tombows as shown. I roughly coloured, just made whole area was well covered and roughly blended. What totally shocked me is how brilliant this was as a watercolour blending background.
Cereal box makes awesome watercolour paper - y’see the top coloured sealed layer (which becomes the base) keeps it in shape beautifully. The white underside (now top) is perfect for smooshing and an absorbing surface for watery medium...
Yay, and it’s free, I’ll be getting everyone to save me cereal packets. Tried it with brushos too, and worked just fine, however remember not all card is created equal.
Added Shimmer spray as water medium well spritzed till blend then waited till dry, may heat dry.
Use a background die  to dry emboss on the watercolour shimmer background as above.
Die cut a background, also out of cereal packet, then smoosh the diecut with Versamark, then emboss with silver, I did this one twice as missed bits on first pass.
So this gorgeous piece below, with embossed die cut attached is simply a bit of a cereal packet or box!
All the card is snippets except for base, used snippets for silver on flowers and flourish, also flowers had a blue water colour cereal leaf. Verse also snippets, shaded whilst still in die, highlighted with silver pen around edge.
 Items used on this card:
Britannia poinsettia die set
Papertrey Moroccan screen die
Joy! Small leaf Flourish
Xcut Victorian die set
Stampendous Christmas verse stamp
The Sea card ~ Top three at WAW EDIT: So excited ... this card made top 3 at WAW.
Don't forget now to pop over to Miss Di's playground for a peek! and watch out for Parsnip's shenanigans too, no telling what he is up to at this time of year!
May God bless you in your day wherever you may be, and thanks so very much for all your kind encouragement even when I'm not a good blogger. :D

Wow that is absolutely Gorgeous, beautiful background and love that die cut with it and the flowers are just beautiful in the silver against that blue. I know our cereal boxes are all kraft color inside but I will have to see if any of our other boxes would work :) Love when we can recycle!

Wow this is stunning. I love the colors and the thought of it being a cereal box.. WoW.. good to know that it' better than water color paper now if I only had young kids still home that ate cereal.. lol. I am so glad you shared over at Catch the bug.

Hi Shaz! I adore your card as you know and am so grateful for you to be our GD this fortnight. Slap my wrists though - I just clicked on the link you sent me for my blog and it didn't work. Now corrected and HUGE apologies! Psssst, I sparkle right now - been using glittery paper for Sunday Snippets card - in between chasing my tail over 101 other things.

Big hugs and a squishy extra one from Parsnip :)

Congrats on your guest designer gig. You rocked it! Also thanks for the tip about cereal boxes. I love upcycling but I haven't seen any cereal boxes that are not kraft/cardboard inside. I do use them... but not for watercolor. Will need to look harder! (BTW your card is gorgeous!)
