Thank you for taking time to visit, and I hope I am even a tiny bit helpful as I have been helped and blessed by so many others. I have been doing Calligraphy since teens, and card making for many years as well. In 1990 I delighted in the joys of stamping with ink and embossing after a trip to Cairns, Qld. In 2009 I discovered the brayer, 2010 the Cuttlebug, also have now taking to reading up on crafting blogs and lo! Here I am, on one of my own.

I live on the coast of eastern Australia. I am a Christian. I trusted in the LORD down here at the beach, amazingly it is not far from where I now live. It was over 50 years ago, after a Beach Mission Service at the age of 12 years

Polished Stone Technique with a Twist/ Alcohol, Inks, Photo paper + WOYWW!

{Warning - picture busy post}

I found this idea on OSA (Oriental Stamp Art) for using inks, so thought I would have play.
Below is the original method - I changed it, using the ideas by Annette and mixed it with the plastic wrap post (back here for full step by step method, sent kindly by from Maggie Silvercrafter).
From Annette of Artneko (A.A.A) stamps:
*You will need:*
Kodak 4" x 6" glossy cardstock or some glossy cardstock, cut the sheet into quarters.
isopropyl alcohol (ie Rubbing alcohol in Oz, could buy alcohol swabs, or your first aid kit, etc.)
cotton balls (cotton wool)
3 alcohol inks in the same family (shades of blue and purple...pinks, reds, and yellow...any colours will do)
Gold leaf or other metallic marker (optional)
Bull nose clip or punch clothespin (optional)
Latex gloves to avoid staining your hands for a week (optional)
Newspaper or protective covering for your work surface
Glimmer mist if you want sparkle to your finished background
*Directions:
Wipe an alcohol dampened cotton ball across the surface of the glossy paper.
Add 1-2 drops each of 3 alcohol inks.
Dab the cotton ball to fill in areas with color. Leave some areas white if
you wish.
You can also swipe the cotton ball across the glossy cardstock if you
prefer.
Add a drop or two of metallic marker to the cotton ball and dab areas.
Create several.
Spray with glimmer mist. (optional)
Allow the cardstock to dry; use bull nose clip or peg if desired.
Stamp as desired.
Did not have all the ingredients suggested by Annette so thought would use what I had, and see what happened. Here, in above photo, you see a sheet of photo paper wiped over with a cotton ball and Adirondack blending solution. I do have other alcohol inks but could only find the metal ones and a few re-inkers in dye ink.
Here I am using the DI Rusty Hinge and  Green shutters, with either gold or brass (?) in alcohol inks.
Used the same plastic wrap {from this post here} as used on earlier piece to spread the ink around without getting inky fingers (which was Pink DI and Blue from SU, with silver), so some silver came on it. The small shot at the top was when it was wet.
I had to put it in our drying cabinet to dry as it is too humid here even at this time of year, for this sort of paper to dry out otherwise.
On right is card finished as my father's birthday card.
As with a lot of things I could not bare to cover up the gorgeous colour so left most of it showing.
Embossed the piece of photo paper with Tim Holtz folder, hence the distress look with it. Then mounted on and enlarged scalloped square black card.
Stamped in permanent ink un-named Tiger stamp (from USA, c.1990's bought in Brisbane or Sydney) on cork. It also was bought about 15 years ago, die cut with large labels, stamped "About Art Accents" signature chop to make it Oriental, with Oriental "AAA" happy birthday. Cut in black one of Spellbinder labels, and mounted cork happy birthday with black ribbon. Mounted on hand made paper [kind of cork looking] from the local beach-side markets.

From end of sheet, stamped Artneko Tiger, Oriental stamp + Script embossing folder.

Closing with floral bouquet from Oz , growing on the side fence is a less common variety called Jamaican Sunset of the Allamanda vine - this one creeping over from my neighbour's.

The fragrant frangipani are finishing now autumn is here in Oz.
For all WOYWW-ers please pop over to Julia's blog hop here to see all these great inspiring desks. I am sorry in advance as commenting is limited too for next few weeks or so.
Presently flat out with jobs, getting ready for other cataract surgery on 22.4.13.
I would just like to close with a special thoughts and prayer for a dear WOYWW-er who lost her wonderful husband suddenly on Sunday. Sending you many thoughts and prayer dear Maggie Silvercrafter. She is a follower of many of your blogs; her name is one I see many times over when joining them. Her heart is a very kind heart - God bless you especially at this time, my dear Maggie.
Thanks so much everyone for popping over for a peek and chat, and may God bless your day wherever you may be,

great backgrounds Shaz! I love the texture you added too! I have found you can get cheap think glossy lazer printer paper and do the technique on it too, much less than glossy card or photo paper and it does not wrinkle with the alcohol ink;) Happy WOYWW! Lindsay #93

Hi Shaz, lovely technique. I've tried it with glossy photo paper before, it does work well, doesn't it? I also tried brayering on it, which does not work so well, :) I also tried heat embossing on it, bad idea! The surface burns & bubbles up. I do use the Isopropyl alcohol myself, I got it online via ebay. I find the 'real' blending solution horribly expensive, and if you read the label, it is just Isopropyl alcohol. I shall try the embossing with a folder, I love that look. Have a lovely week, Shaz xx. By the way, Have you heard from Maggie?(silvercrafter).

Your dad will love his card, it is so cool. I haven't done that technique in awhile, I have to give it a whirl. All the best to you and wishes for a speedy recovery from your surgery. Sorry to hear of Maggie's loss, I will be praying for her and her family.

You must have wondered what I was going on about, rabbiting on about BOGOFs!! They're a well known fact of life over here, I just assumed they'd be widely known around the world!
Thank you for letting us know about Maggie...I wondered why she wasn't around today...poor thing, what an awful thing to happen, so suddenly too. I shall drop her an email to let her know how much we are thinking of her......

Top of the AM (or is it PM?) to you!
This technique is really beautiful. It's coming back to me in bits and pieces, but I don't believe I've ever heard about using all these ideas at the same time. The plastic wrap is really the frosting on the cake. I shall have to try this soon! So sorry to hear about Maggie's husband. I lost my husband 13 years ago to suicide; hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. Becoming a widow is definetly survivable, but no fun what so ever. Thanks as always, for a bit of summer....

I used the TH alcohol inks, but now will set off to try MaggieC's technique (well, she's the one who sent ME the technique instructions!)using the DI reinkers. Duh, never thought about that. Good luck with the catarract surgery. I still have to schedule my 2nd one, but trying to get the DH back on track. Loved your flowers too.
