Thank you for taking time to visit, and I hope I am even a tiny bit helpful as I have been helped and blessed by so many others. I have been doing Calligraphy since teens, and card making for many years as well. In 1990 I delighted in the joys of stamping with ink and embossing after a trip to Cairns, Qld. In 2009 I discovered the brayer, 2010 the Cuttlebug, also have now taking to reading up on crafting blogs and lo! Here I am, on one of my own.

I live on the coast of eastern Australia. I am a Christian. I trusted in the LORD down here at the beach, amazingly it is not far from where I now live. It was over 50 years ago, after a Beach Mission Service at the age of 12 years

WOYWW + Black Silver Oriental Card + NSW Fires

{Warning picture heavy post.}
Hullo there everyone, time for WOYWW - DO  hop over to What is On Your Workdesk Wednesday over at Julia's blog HERE....
I am working on a card. You know when you get an idea in your head, which doesn't quite work, but you don't want to ditch it, so you attack it from another angle?
Well, that is what I am doing today. It is the first bit of play for this month actually as I was away then the room was all packed up (and still not totally unpacked. Oh, and the NBN went in eventually and works just wonderfully!). Over at OSA (Oriental Stamp Art) they are having a Black and silver mingle so making a card for that .. with silver, black card and black ink.
Saw a  video by Jani Lewis of Paper Compulsions a while ago now. I used that method here but the first folder had too much open space to work successfully, so decided to cut around the image outline and glue it onto another folder from the set, also embossed the inked over with Jet Black Staz-on. Embossing folders are from Oriental set of four by Cuttlebug called "Oriental Weave".
The stamp Kanji also did not co-operate and was revamped. It was supposed to be a framed "Tranquility" kanji like this one from Artneko, but on the slippery silver card it smudged a tad on frame and the English word so trimmed these off and re-framed it - waste not, want not - again!! here tis finished..

Here is another part of my rearranged craft room ~ the embossing/ cutting station, positioned behind my desk, near the doorway .. with dies, folders, unmounted stamps in large folder, colouring items etc.
Note the three tools next to Cuttlebug, which  are always handy: 1. the candle end to make it easy to remove tricky dies (just give the rub over the die before cutting) 2. the green handled tool to lift dies when cut off plate, and 3. the invisible tape to attach dies while cutting. Have a Big Shot as well as Cuttlebug because I thought the bug was broken! and bought the Shot! then someone on WOYWW (about two years ago) suggested it was probably a loose screw and it was :D so use one for cutting and the other for embossing.

Also today my thoughts and prayers are with the "Firies" (our brave firefighters) down south - we have really had bad bushfires this year - and it is not even summer! There are over 60 fires burning across NSW, too many of which are out of control. A dry warm winter -> lots of fuel!
The real area of concern especially today, Wednesday, is the Blue Mountains townships (surrounding Sydney), where they have lost over 200 homes already and about half that damaged badly.
I took these with my camera from the ABC news - so heartbreaking to watch.

Dear LORD, may you watch over them all today - those who are fighting and those who are waiting to see what is going to happen to their homes and livelihoods, may You give wisdom and grace and mercy where needed to all concerned, keep them safe and meet every need, In Jesus name, amen.

Thanks so much if you have read this far down, and if you join in with me in this prayer .. and for popping over for a peek and chat.
May the dear LORD bless your day where ever you may be!

Thank you for the prayers for the fire fighters and for all the people that have been affected by these horrific fires. My son is an ag-pilot and he is fire bombing on these fires, the prayers are really appreciated. I have been busy rearranging my craft room too, must be the spring air :-). Have a great week and happy WOYWW.

Shaz, it is good to have you back on WOYWW. Your card looks great, but I am encouraged to find it is not just me who has those cards which refuse to be completed easily.
I was worried that you might be near the fires, (my geography of Australia is not great) but I will join you in prayer for those affected by them.
Heavenly Father we ask that you will comfort all those people in Australia who are affected by these fires. That they will find safety from the dangers, that they will soon be able to return and begin to rebuild their lives. Please send the rain, that is so desperately needed in that area, to quench the flames and put out the smoldering undergrowth.
Lord Jesus we ask in your precious name, Amen

Hope you are now fully recovered,
Blessings

So sad to hear (and read) about the fires. The Blue Mountains is where mum and sis used to go for many a holiday. I am joining you in prayer.
Now to your crafting - Shaz - that is utterly gorgeous! Must go and look at the link as I cannot get over just how stunning your card is.
Take care my friend and thanks for all the die cutting tips.

So sad to see all the destruction from fires, floods and typhoons, and so brave of the people who risk their lives to battle it all. Great save on the card, love how it turned out. I love using self patterning wool, half the fun is seeing how it turns out!

Ah Sharon, the fires are on our national news too, so frightening for sydneysiders. We were in katoomba years ago, so hard to see it threatened. the fire boys and gals are incredibly brave.
Like your oriental card, especially as it's come together from rescue and retry. The silver card is very effective..worth the slippery factor!

Good for you for persevering on that stubborn card, Shaz, because it turned out so beautifully!! Love the organized cutting area you've made and I appreciate the tips on the tools to keep handy!

I, too, am keeping Oz in my thoughts and prayers. Those fires are so devastating. It's been a bad year for them all over the world.

Happy WOYWW! Have a wonderful week and thanks for stopping by to visit me! Darnell #12

Prayers going out to you & your countrymen with these awful fires. So scary, and no one knows the long-range damage..not just to 'things & possessions', but also health issues. I really like the Asian-themed card you ended up with. Very elegant. I'll have to try your candle idea. Some dies are just horrible to get the paper out. I've heard about the fires. Dreadful. I'll join in your prayers. Happy WOYWW!

Such a beautiful oriental Card Shaz and I love the effect of that technique using your embossing folders. My thoughts are also with the fire fighters and all those effected by the current fires across NSW. Some of my family were evacuated last week as it came very close to their home. They were one of the lucky ones thanks to the fabulous efforts of the RFS. Hopefully the weather conditions change and they will all be brought under control soon. Have a great week! Danie #25

Beautiful card Shaz. Glad you liked the technique and thanks so much for linking to my video. Love how you cut around the bamboo too.

Hello Shaz. Thanks for visiting earlier - yes, the calendar did take rather a long time - but it has certainly been worth it. Can't wait for December 1st!!
Your country is certainly struggling with these fires. We see the news website (we don't have tv), and the destruction is so very bad. I trust Father God will show you His mercy, bringing rain, helping the struggling fire fighters, and giving peace to those who have lost so much.
God bless,
