WOYWW + Cards + Serviette with Cling Wrap Ironing Method

Hi there one and all - how quickly a week flies by .. mm, so yes this year is not different to others. It is Wednesday here already!
Do pop  over at Julia's for WOYWW or What is On Your workdesk Wednesday!
Am sharing for my WOYWW post an old method, well known I thought - but have found lots dont know about it, so thought would share it with you, step by step..
... so picture heavy post but not many words :D. To my my desk yesterday ..

1. separate layers of serviette/ napkin to very top pretty layer of a three ply serviette .. the paper napkin variety. Have at the ready from the kitchen some cling wrap, or plastic wrap.
Heated up my cheap $10 Semco craft iron on high (you may need to check your iron. I tried a lower temperature first but did not take). As on heat proof craft mat, didn't need to worry about heat.
2.Lay first the serviette/ napkin face down, with pretty side on the non stick heat mat. i.e. away from you.
3. Lay on top of back of serviette a sheet of plastic wrap, smoothing it out.
4. Place on top of plastic a sheet of plain white card or heavy duty paper.
Iron and iron really well repeating coverage over it all
.
You may need to go over several times, especially on edges as they are slowest to take.

If using a good iron, then put piece of printer paper to protect your good iron.

This one has good Teflon surface so didn't worry.
Untrimmed complete sheet, double check complete adhesion especially around the edges before trimming it..

Found some snippets in my folder of gold card of die cut pieces with SB Curved border die, so using it with these two pieces.

Have huge list (for me) of birthdays for Feb., so here is one down and six more to go.The Happy Birthday die is Quietfire design by Elizabeth craft designs and double cut in blue under to complement colours in serviette.
Surfs Up Downudner - we have had huge seas with the swell form a tropical low .. rain has been welcome, if impinging on my swimming a tad. These three were taken by my BiL a few days back, on their home surf break thirty mins north of here.

May God bless your day everyone
... and thanks so much for all your wonderfully, encouraging comments, too.

Love that technique Shaz - I have been known to beg for clean napkins to be able to use for cards - much to my cousin's amusement!!
Love those surf photos - we have getting 28-30 oC days here with up to 85% humidity, thunder and some rain - not particularly comfortable.
Blessings

Another very clever idea for using all those gorgeous napkins. Thanks for sharing ... you are a fountain of knowledge. I can imagine your calligraphy would take a long time but the results are definitely worth the effort. Always stunning :)

Would love to be outdoor swimming about now! Beautiful pictures - really huge seas indeed! Nice tute with napkins and cling wrap, I didn't know that. have used freezer wrap 9because of the wax on the paper) but that is almost impossible to get here! Great tip and beautiful end result!

Hi Shaz,

Thanks for your visit earlier and had to come take a peek at the phtos, will show them to Eliot later. Love the blue and gold card, very elegant looking.

As for Blogger, would you believe that since my post went live this morning a huge chunk of 70 has been spirited away. Mid December I had 4416, now it's 4205, why on earth they fiddle with out blogs I know not if it's not broken why on earth do they feel the need to try and fix it.

OK rant over !

I've tried this once but didn't work. Perhaps I had the wrong kind of cling film. It worked better with fusible web, but it's a lot more expensive. You've made a stunning card with that napkin and awesome surf pictures! Hard to believe it's summer Down Under! Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa #38

Oh that looks like an easy technique. I must try that! (if I can find some napkins). They have pretty napkins here, problem is I have to buy a whole pack! Oh well, I can always use them as napkins!
The photos of those surfers are fantastic! What high waves! Thanks for sharing those.
Thanks for visiting earlier and your sweet comment,
Have a good week,
Lisca

Hi Shaz, I recently bought that Happy Birthday die too- isn't it gorgeous. Re the Brushos, this link will take you to two posts I did trying them out, with all the things I discovered. http://silverwolfcards-shaz.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=Brushos
The main one has to be to not underestimate how far the powder will spread, either when sprinkling on, or spraying with water- it will spread much further than you think, so cover everything up well. Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz xxx

I tried this idea a few months ago but the results were a bit hit or miss with adhesion so maybe I didn't have the iron hot enough, will give it another go as the results are wonderful! Happy Wednesday to you! Annette #31

The girls in my group are doing a bunch of these, half use this method and the other half just use mod podge for applying it, I myself have only used the mod podge method. Love how you used the border die with it, just lovely!!

Wow those are some cool waves, do you surf?

I haven't seen this technique before, Shaz, really interesting. I will be giving this a go. I wonder if you could add glitter between the serviette and cling film before ironing.
Love the fab wave pictures, really cheered up a wet and windy day here in the UK.
Thanks for popping by earlier

I'm not sure I'm understanding this for sure or not Sharon, but when you iron over the napkin does it transfer to the cardstock?? Looks like a cool technique and I so am going to try it if I'm understanding it! Your card came out beautiful! Love that napkin you used, such a good graphic on it. Oh my, look at the waves! I'm not a big ocean swimmer, well not at all. lol Will get in to my knees once in a blue moon, just don't like the critters in the ocean and don't want to encounter any! lol But I do love looking at the ocean as I think it is so pretty. The pictures of the surfers are so cool, are they nephews of yours? Hugs, Brenda

Gorgeous card from a mere paper serviette! I've done that method before using freezer paper (which is plastic wrap with a paper backing). Then I made envelopes out them. Kinda of cool but ironing is suspiciously like housework!

Marilyn Mathis said...

Thanks for the tutorial. I have used freezer paper in the past but it didn't last. I may try this sometime since my daughter gave me some pretty napkins.

Hi Shaz your card is amazing, such a clever idea. You are full of inspiration.
Thank-you for coming by and leaving a comment. Now to answer your question :)
I bought my Sue Wilson dies from Joanna Sheen although that was when the Aussie dollar was good, not now they cost to much. Cardmakingonline also sell them for a good price.
Enjoy your week.
