In the land of Blog, there is a hop called WOYWW,
For running it, our Head Desker, Julia, must take a bow,

And thereupon we Bloggers our work we do show.
It’s our eleventh anniversary which has come upon us now,
So let’s all join together to celebrate our Eleventh WOYWW!

To my up close desk showing WOYWW objects over the years! Monkeys with WOYWW badges proudly ready for anniversary party time! Clever dumfing ATCs by Jo, my first PiF from Jozarty back in 2011 - my first anniversary with WOYWW, started blogging Nov 2010, joined WOYWW Jan 2011.
However this is the star of the show. My UFO (Un-Finished Object) as Julia challenged us to finish a UFO! This was mine a fortnight ago.
Here’s the FINAL square in each of its stages this week. It starts as a circle, then turns into a square.
Front of this desk trying to work on a card with some beautiful iris Die cuts kindly sent by Darnell for my English octogenarian called Iris, who has her birthday in June.
I’ve four NBUS (two were gifts) I realised to chose for background to irises. At far rear on left is my only card which will share below.
It’s a crotcheted teacloth, started in 1988, Aust. bicentennial year. Did first half in 18 months, then Dec 1989, I broke my right arm badly, it came to grinding halt. Never quite built up impetus again, so took another 30 years to finish!
Yes, a 32 year old UFO. When lifted it out I had one and bit squares to go. Each last row on a square you tediously crotchet new square onto teacloth.
Believe you me, Row 10 is not for the faint hearted.
There are 49 squares in all.

And ready for a tea party! Cuppa anyone? The kettle so on! For those who crotchet it’s done in no 20 thread, I mostly use it, have once done no 40. The hook was 1.25mm, pretty fine,key stitch to make star pattern is popcorn stitch, I varied the stitch though from 5 to 4 trebles. My very crafty and funny Yorkshire grandmother taught me to crotchet.
I was actually taught to crotchet with sewing thread, cause that was what was available, did mauve edge around a plain handkerchief.
Here is one of my grandma's many crotchet pieces, Nanna made us all lots of blankets too and stuffed toys, like this one.
Now briefly a card.. a quick snippety one because had this wonderful printed image with WAW verse printed postcard left over from mail out. Been very busy over four days doing monthly mail or delivery for our oldies church group, since still not meeting.
Anyone recognise this one? Very 1960s when made, Rupert bear. Love him, think my brother had a Rupert Annual. Do you remember the Annuals? Loved those books.
Aussie photos were from walk, this past week.
Firstly the dog in the far right distance made me laugh. He was being called and knew it but so didn’t want to move.

My oh my, what a beautiful cloth you have finished. That is absolutely something else! Never mind how long it took to make it was worth every minute you spent on it.
My aunt could not teach me to crochet she was too quick with it but mum did teach me and I did a large mat with Solomon's knots and pineapples. I was so proud - and now I have forgotten how to crochet. That aunt made me two dresses and a two piece suit in the 60's - she was so good at things like that. ( I still have a full length Arran coat she once knitted.) I shared her birthday but I didn't have her patience!

Morning Shaz. Happy 11th anniversary. Oh my word! And I thought mine was an ancient UFO. Well done, the table top cloth is superb. Good for you to have finished it. I trust you enjoyed your afternoon tea sitting there next to the little table. Yes, Rupert Bear was part of my childhood - and yes, we had some of the annuals! Quite possibly, my brother still has them! Great Aussie shots of your walk.

I normally bring out all my WOYWW paraphernalia I have accumulated over the years, but for some reason, that didn't happen this year. Glad to see all of yours. What a lovely retrospective, but also an incredible completed project. My grandmother used to crochet, too. It's a lost art form, I fear. Not by you, obviously. Happy WOYWW from # 6.
Wow that's some UFO absolutely beautiful and now finished. I used to love Rupert the bear and had an aunt who gave me an annual every Christmas. How I wish I had kept them as I am sure they would be worth a lot of money now. Thank you for your friendship and may God bless you. Ani #1
Shaz, that cloth is absolutely beautiful, well done indeed for making the effort to finish it. I've never crocheted with yarn that fine, I don't think I would ever finish anything that grows so slowly.

Now that really is a magnificent finished UFO shaz, so pretty in design you must be so proud of yourself that you have finally finished it after all those years. I had a Rupert teddy as a child along with annuals every year, he was a very popular bear here in the UK.

Wow Shaz, you must hold the record for longest UFO. What a beautiful piece it is now it's finished. My Dad had a Rupert Bear annual. Wee started by following the story through the pictures, then moved onto the short rhymes then eventually the longer story elements. Happy anniversary, stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #15

Oh Shaz - you really made me laugh. Your crochet is amazing and I love it but I too have a bit of crochet on the go - guess what - a woolly kangaroo and Joey!!!! A friend gave it to me and at the time I said "I'm not very good with patterns, I mostly manage straight pieces of crochet" AND - well yes I was right. Not sure my Roo will ever get finished but I will give it a go. Happy 11th bloggyversary! xx Jo

I love your crocheted teacloth; it's so finely done it looks like tatting. I love things like this and have similar style cloths in my 2 letting rooms.

Wow Shaz, I think that has to be the oldest and most beautiful UFO I've seen - the work is exquisite and it looks so pretty with the tea set laid out on it.
I adored Rupert Bear as a child and always had the annuals, although they are long gone now - what lovely memories he brings back.

I’ve never crocheted with threads as fine, it looks beautiful, I presumed you were lacemaking in the first picture. What a result. And your tea china looks absolutely perfect with it. Just a splash of milk in mine, thanks. I think your rule about buying chocolate for yourself is a brilliant one, I should like ONE DAY, to emulate that!! Hi precious Shaz - what a beautiful cloth you have finished- I too crochet - self taught when I was about 9 yrs old, and I still do some. For years I preferred it over knitting, but knitting did take precedence when the family were growing... I too have used sewing cotton, and #100 on occasion. Not so much now my eyes are starting to develop cataracts. What a wonderful legacy your grandmother gave you.
Loving your card - as usual it is exquisite - your photos are fabulous - we have been having frosts here, but brilliant days afterwards.

What a wonderful post, Shaz - all the way through I was going "Oooh!" and "Aaahh!" because you and I have so much in common! First of all, though, that teacloth is the most beautiful piece of crochet I think I've ever seen... It is totally stunning, and soooo worth finishing! Well done! Then you said your wonderful Nanna had taught you to crochet. My Nanna (who originally came from Liverpool) taught me! She made granny-square bedspreads for all us girls (my sister and our 2 cousins) and I am so grateful to her for teaching me. I used to do quite a lot with the fine white crochet cotton and have a set of very fine crochet hooks. I used to do Irish crochet - making up flower and leaf motifs that you stitch onto paper, and then join up with chain stitches. Somewhere hidden away in my studio is a lace collar I made. I still have 2 Rupert albums from when I was a child - I always loved them! Lovely to see your crochet Rupert Bear! So nice that we have all this in common. Funny that your UFO is almost as old as my oldest ones!! Over 30 years is a long time to go off the boil, isn't it.

I love seeing your desk and what you are working on Sharon! It's always fun to take a glimpse into someone's crafty room. I am blown away with your crocheted teacloth! It is just stunning! I can imagine the work that went into it with such fine thread. My MIL used to do some crocheting with fine thread at times. I never worked with the fine thread. I was taught to crochet left handed by a right handed crocheter! I wanted to learn so bad, so I did. I wasn't even at home, was in another state when I learned. So fun and such fun memories! Oh yes, a lovely cuppa sounds perfect right now. Especially because of a toothache that I have! I'm amazed at how you start with a circle and end up with that beautiful fancy square, again it is just stunning! I'm also amazed that you were taught how to crochet with sewing thread! That was good practice I guess for this fine detail work! Your grandma was talented for sure, I am loving her doily and little bear she did for you. Looks brand new! Wow Shaz your tablecloth is beautiful! I used to do doilys many years ago but they’re not used much nowadays. My crochet these days is not so fine - octopus for premature babies!

The cloth is stunning Shaz. My Grandma used to do work like that, I have a couple of bits of hers. She taught me the basics of crochet.

Oh my...what a beautiful teacloth that is that you crocheted! I love the design - it is such an intricate pattern. This brought back to my mind, that I have a very similar "UFO" sitting in my work-basket at home. :) Come to think of it - I think it has been about 8 years ago (or more?) that I started on it...so your story makes me not feel so bad! :D Mine is not nearly as intricate looking as yours - I used a slightly thicker thread to work with, so it builds up a little faster, but it is still slow going. My plan originally was to make a full-sized table cloth, but seeing how pretty yours is just as a centerpiece - I might be able to consider mine finished very soon if I can just finish up the last row. :) You can see mine here... an old post already 5 years ago. This is a late happy Anniversary visit, sorry! My stamp sorting project was more of a task than I thought! Your crochet skills are truly wonderful. I have never crocheted anything so fine. Love your tea set as well :) your photographs of the beach are beautiful, if only I had a Tardis to take me there (do you watch Doctor Who?). Thank you for the information on the -peppered moth. I had to look it up because I hadn’t seen one before. I don’t understand why such old information is still dished out to people. I have to admit the article was a bit odd because it said that it was proof of Darwin’s theory “survival of the fittest” which was not Darwin’s theory. (Obviously you know Darwin got it all wrong anyway). I did go to another article, but it said the same things about the Industrial Revolution changing the moths colour. My neighbour told me over a 100 scientists signed a petition to get the text books in school changed about Darwin’s Theory as it is mathematically impossible, but were unsuccessful. It is amazing that school boards allow the myth to be perpetuated.
Finally, I didn’t recognise that verse from Isaiah. The NIV has it as :You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall. It was the last sentence I didn’t recognise, Quite often a familiar verse has a line missed out. With this hymn : God moves in a mysterious way,
His wonders to perform; He plants his footsteps in the sea, And rides upon the storm.. people often quote the first part and don’t know the second. I didn’t even know it came from a hymn until I happened to look it up one day. I apologise for running on, going to watch Sunday Service on the TV now, God Bless x Angela #44
I know how to knit, but I’ve given up on crocheting, I never became comfortable holding the hook in the right way. The way I hold it would be similar to how a child holds a pen for the first time, meaning looking weird. But what an amazing table cloth, so glad you finished it. And loads of lovely photos in this post, enjoyable.
